Last week, we successfully held our first of the year, and I want to thank everyone who participated. It was an important opportunity for networking and learning within our industry. Special thanks to Adam Stephen from the Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) for his presentation on the , offering crucial advice and funding support for HR challenges. For those struggling with hiring or retention, I recommend contacting Adam for assistance.

Our engagement with the broader industry continued at the annual Destination Australia conference in Sydney, themed ‘The next chapter for sustainable growth.’ It was an honour to attend alongside our marketing team, joining peers from across the nation to chart the course for the future of Australian tourism. This year we anticipate surpassing the 2019 benchmarks for visitation and expenditure, moving beyond pre-COVID comparisons and towards defining sustainable growth for our sector.

The conference was a melting pot of ideas, with industry leaders and experts discussing evolving trends, aviation, distribution & AI, emerging sectors, and accessibility & inclusion, among other critical topics. The narrative of telling Australia’s story was a focal point, engaging and inspiring in equal measure.

Key takeaways from the event underscored a global resurgence in consumer confidence, with Australia emerging as a premier destination for its natural beauty, wildlife, and indigenous experiences, complemented by our renowned hospitality and culinary offerings. Notably, Australia’s desirability as a travel destination is on the rise, now ranking third globally. Additionally, our nation’s Net Promoter Score (NPS) has seen a significant leap, reflecting growing international acclaim.

On the marketing front, the conference highlighted the ever-expanding digital landscape, with over 5 billion social media users and significant engagement across platforms. These insights are crucial as we tailor our strategies to meet the shifting preferences of young millennials and Gen Z, navigating the vast potential of platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.

As we look ahead, the learnings from Destination Australia will guide our efforts to not only meet but exceed pre-COVID levels of aviation by mid-2024. The journey towards sustainable growth is both exciting and challenging, requiring us to adapt, innovate, and collaborate more closely than ever.

Thank you for your continued support and dedication to Southern Queensland Country’s tourism industry. Together, we are setting the stage for a vibrant and prosperous future.
