ESCAPE TO THE OPERA

Prepare for a spectacular return as Opera at Jimbour graces the historic Jimbour House from 10 – 12 May 2024, as part of The Southern Trail. Unveiling its most enchanting program to date, Opera at Jimbour beckons you into a world where breathtaking music and captivating narratives intertwine.

Immerse yourself in performances by internationally acclaimed soloists and chamber musicians, carefully curated from the esteemed ensembles of Opera Queensland and Ensemble Q, in collaboration with performance partners Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University and Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra.

The weekend promises a rich tapestry of events, including a special Mother's Day program that features an expertly curated high tea to celebrate the occasion. Experience refined chamber music within the vintage plane Hangar, indulge in intimate recitals in the opulent Drawing Room and embark on exclusive tours through the storied halls of Jimbour House, among other offerings detailed in the program.

The weekend's highlight, Afternoon at the Amphitheatre, will see the brilliance of Puccini’s operatic masterpiece, Tosca, unfold alongside a plethora of family-friendly activities. Enjoy local market stalls, food vendors, bars and pre-show entertainment before Opera Queensland soloists, Eva Kong (Tosca), Iain Henderson (Cavaradossi) and Teddy Tahu Rhodes (Scarpia), grace the stage.

Elevate your experience by choosing to stay on the picturesque grounds, where self-contained caravans and motorhomes are warmly welcomed to spend the weekend.

Make this a weekend escape to remember, where the magic of opera meets the enchantment of Jimbour House!

QMF respectfully acknowledges the Wakka Wakka, Jarowair, and Barrumgum Peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land, waters and skies where the Southern Trail unfolds. We extend our respects for their enduring connection to the remarkable terrain, where creative works take place, performances resonate, and celebrations come to life. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders of all communities who also work and live on this land. We recognise the importance of First Nations leadership and collaboration, and QMF commits to walking together on a journey of shared learning and culture.
