As we step into another challenging bushfire season, with significant impacts already felt across Carnarvon Gorge, Southern Downs & Granite Belt, and Western Downs our thoughts are first and foremost with the safety of our community. While our region is resilient, the reality is that such events and the accompanying media coverage can have a short-term impact on our businesses. As your Regional Tourism Organisation (RTO), we are vigorously advocating for support on multiple fronts – financial, in-kind, and marketing. In collaboration with Tourism & Events Queensland (TEQ) and state bodies, we're dedicated to navigating these times together.
image
To this end, we are compiling an audit of business impacts to strengthen our case for support. If you've suffered losses and we haven't yet spoken with you directly, please reach out to me or our project officer, Steph Parker, at your earliest convenience.
We also recognise the importance of clear communication during such times. Hence, we update our website and social media channels regularly. Our aim is to provide real-time information that helps ensure visitor safety without compromising the appeal of Southern Queensland Country. Please note the new disclaimers and Queensland Fire & Emergency Services (QFES) updates guiding travellers safely through our region.

Lastly, amidst these pressing times, opportunities for growth still arise. I urge those of you who can, to consider the 'Access Starter' and 'Access Project' grants available through the Department of Tourism Innovation and Sport (DTIS). These grants offer unmatched funding to fast-track accessibility projects, potentially bringing long-term plans to fruition much sooner.

We stand with you in these trying times and are committed to supporting your endeavours for a swift and strong recovery.
